II.
We ordered Fiesta Nachos (Veg.), Spicy Chicken Quesadillas, Cheese Fajita and Churros with Chocolate Sauce for dessert. For drink we ordered Watermelon Mojitos.

Before we get to the main course, let me say the dessert was awesome with a capital A. Churros are apparently mexican donuts – crispy donut sticks with delicious chocolate sauce.

The food was nice, though a bit bland – had definitely expected the Nachos to be more spicy.

The place is nicely done and the music was great (for me especially since they played a few songs which I often hear at Salsa nites).

The service is exceptional – we had ordered Veg Enchiladas which we did not like and they promptly replaced those with another dish.

One visit recommended, if nothing else, at least for the the Churros.

Additional reviews and contact details here:
http://delhi.burrp.com/listing/bar-restaurant-lounge/156886653_sanchos

Total kharcha: 1000 per head. They serve some of the best lachcha paranthas in Gurgaon and the keema is absolute yum! Don't be surprised if you have to wait before being seated. The service is fine.

They also deliver, and infact that is one of the reasons I am writing this review. The other day I wanted to place an order at Romi's, but I didn't have their number. I googled, found a number, ordered which I then planned to pick up on my way. Now once I reached it turned out that there was another Romi da Dhaba, masquerading as the original - whose number I had found and not THE Romi the Dhaba's. (When I mentioned that to the owner - he innocently said - ki Sir unke contacts honge). So here's Romi da Dhaba's menu and their contact number - so that you might find the correct one if you google (click on the images for larger versions). Anyway, never too late to get back into action.
Order: 1/2 Tawa Chicken, Chicken Biryani, Raita, Breads. Bill: About Rs. 350. VFM: Totally, as always.

This place used to be one of our favorite haunts back in IIT days. Went there again today. This place serves some of the best Mughlai Non-Veg food in Delhi. The portions are HUGE, and the prices very reasonable. The Veg menu is also decent and equally good, so don't rule this place out even if you are a vegetarian. Remember to try the Mirchi Roti at the place. Even the saunf is nice.
During afternoons you can select from dishes like Rajma Chawal, Amritsari Chana and Kulcha (The owner of the place hails from Amritsat btw), and Matar Paneer chawal.

Service: Mostly okay.

Ambience: Well, it's like a dhaba, and you are sitting on plastic chairs in the open. Even though the guy has expanded now and you can enjoy your meal in a nice air conditioned section, we still prefer the rustic style better.

How to get there: take a left ahead of the Grand Sartaj Hotel on Aurobindo Marg and a right from Scorpion Moon.

Sports Bar, Shangri-la (Delhi)

What we ordered: German Platter (cold sandwich, sausages and salad and 3 pint of Foster's beer) and a pint of draught beer
occasion: 3rd place play-off Soccer WC 2006 - Germany vs. Portugal (3-1)
Bill: Rs. 750/- (Awesome value for money)

Menu: Since we were watching the game, we just looked at the Drinks Menu which was quite exhaustive. Variety of wine, whiskey and beer.

Service: The head-waiter asked us to fit in a couch when we told him three people. He then provided a grand stool (on which I could even sleep) after some hassling. Luckily, the third guy didn't turn up and we enjoyed the grandiose couch. All speakers in the bar are BOSE with terrific sound. They take last drinks order till 12:45 am ONLY, this is a bit surprising given the fact that the match could have gone up till 3 am.

Crowd: Very 5 star crowd but few out of place. I don't know how many of you watch Headlines Today but Jujjhar Singh (their main news-reader) was there to enjoy the game.

Ambiance: HUGE screen, which I would say is not exactly strategically placed. Anyhow, there are 3-4 Sony flatscreen TVs in different corners, which aint bad either. Couches were extremely comfortable.

Location: Right across the Le meridian. Parking is never an issue in such a place.

Final Verdict: This is a hit place to watch any sporting action on TV. The German platter (and a few more platters) is priced @ 500 bucks which is a NOT TO BE MISSED deal. Not sure, but this deal is on only for WC 06.

Citrus Cafe, The Lemon Tree Hotel, Gurgaon

4 People, Beer & Main Course; Bill: Rs.1500

Location: The Lemon Tree Hotel, near Signature Towers

24 hr. multi-cusine eatery, seeming in the middle of nowhere. The service is pretty good and food's half decent.

What We Ordered: Salad, Soup, Sizzler, Pasta, Khichdi.
The sizzler was by far the most pathetic excuse for nutrition I have ever had. “Shit happens, shit happens to be on my plate!”, I said. The others dishes, fortunately, were good and surprising the khichdi was great.

Ambiance: Clean and crisp décor. This guy who was serving wasn't well versed in Hindi or English. I am sure he would be the same in Goan (if he is from Goa). So, while paying the bill I turned my wallet upside down and found Rs. 390 only. But the manager was co-operative. Asked me to come and give it back at my convenience. Drinks: 1 Bavaria, 1 Amstel, A couple of cocktails. Five Buffets @ Rs.575 each. Bill about Rs. 4300. VFM: No

This place is quite popular among night birds for their late night biryani buffet for Rs 111 - which given its price is pretty alright. However this one was bad - though incredibly extensive - salads, soups, sandwiches, like 8 dishes for main course (combo of Italian and Indian) , 10 dishes for dessert - which infact makes it all the worse. Except maybe a couple of dishes which were okay, almost everything felt as if it was a day old - including the desserts (and they probably use the leftover biryani from this one for the biryani buffet later). The cocktails were nice however.
I have a feeling that aren't any better if you order dishes separately - the one time before I have been there for a late night snack - they could not get chilli potatoes right - I mean which kind of a (5 star?) restaurant does not get that right?

Menu: Multicuisine, drinks menu is not very extensive - though they do serve a good collection of beers (don't be surprised if some of them are not available though), If you ask for wine, they will show a tray with like 5 bottles to choose from.

Ambience: Nice, Service: Really good - but that cannot make up for the bad food.

NOTE : They have their annual celebrations going on - Happy hours 24/7 12pm to 12 am (1+1) till the end of Februaury, apprently will go on for a bit - great place to get a drink - but remember not to order any food.

Saffire, JMD Regent Plaza

2 people. Just a few beers and fries - About Rs. 1200
Well, since I can't review the food let me just round up the offerings -
Menu: Lebanese mostly, Good drinks menu - house some imported beers - around 300 bucks apiece.
Ambience: Built on two floors, the lower floor has a fairly pubby ambience(similar to Q'BA ground floor minus the lounge area, replace purple lights with blue). However, the floor above called, Saffire under the stars, looks really nice and looks like a good place for an office party. (The most heavenly 'under the stars' ambience is a at retaurant in Mumbai near the Gateway - I am forgetting the name)
Service: We sat by the bar, and must say that the service was exceptional. Whenever we asked the question "What do you have?" we were asked "What do you want?" instead, and its not rhetorical - we got fries even though they arent on the menu, and a 1+1 budweiser (Of course one of my skeptic friends would read that quite differently.)

Mist, The Park

3 people for a late night snack. Veg Kebab Platter, A bottle of Sula white wine. Bill about Rs.1700. VFM: Hmmm...yes.

The Hmm...yes is because though the prices are typical 5-star, the portions might be huge - our veg kebab platter had the equivalent of 2 dishes with generous helpings of paneer tikka, til aloo, shammi kebab and moong dal seekh kebab. Everything was good (except for the seekh kebab), so am guessing the rest of the food might be promising as well.
Menu: Multi-cuisine - there are separate sandwich and pizza sections, besides appetisers/main course has Indian dishes, Lebanese dishes, Italian dishes even some Thai ones I think, along with what looks like a rather delectable list of desserts.
Ambience: Unique to say the least. After you successfully manage to get past the pink stuff around Park's reception and turn left, you are greeted with the pleasant blue hue of Mist, with its space and nice loungish seating. VFM: Only if you order the thali.

Food is reasonable, though the biryanis were fairly average. What is especially good is the thali - quite uncommon in fine dining restaurants otherwise. For about Rs.275 bucks (Non Veg Thali minus taxes) you get to order 2 kebabs and 1 veg dish from the whole menu. My thali had Dal Makhni, Diwani Handi(Mixed Veg), Reshmi Kebab, Peshawari Kebab along with the usuals. I found all of them to be pretty good (including the Dal - acid test for any Indian restaurant).
Otherwise the food seems quite expensive for a place which is clearly very non-happening.
Menu - Indian, though surprisingly, this was one restaurant where I could not find a Veg. Paneer Dish. Alcohol selection seems limited with the standard beer trio(SBT) being served.(Fosters/Kingfisher/Castle)
Ambience - Nicely done interiors, pleasant lighting, bar stools legs are stockinged women's legs. They serve paan and a delectable selection of saunf. Bill: Rs. 5125. Value for Money : Definitely.

Really good food overall, the appetisers were awesome and chutney rice was also really good. The veg dishes for the main course were average, the paneer lababdar a bit too bland and the the qadi korma just not great. Our brit colleagues especially liked the food.
Menu: Indian-Pakistani as promised, reasonably extensive, too long to remember well. Probably go there again and try something else. Bill Rs. 17,613 ! (Since in this case a total amount won't suffice, the break-up is as follows - Food about 6-7k, drinks 2-3k, wine about 5k, tax remainder, Thanks to Ashwani for the break-up).Value for money: SO TOTALLY NOT (Manyu has some excellent comments on the topic here.)

Went there with my office colleagues for a team dinner (which is why I didn't have to pay thankfully). Easily the most over-rated and over-priced restaurant in Delhi (e.g. Kebabs are Rs 850, probably Bukhara is more expensive, but will have to wait and see if it is overpriced too). The Pomegranate chops were really good and the prawn kebabs were quite awesome. Some of my friends liked the kakori kebabs for the finely minced meat, however, personally I think they were quite ordinary. Other than that everything else was sub-standard fare.
Menu: Have an extensive (and expensive) wine list. Food - Indian with some niche dishes (atleast a lot of names sound pretty unique), runs into 5-6 pages - one page dedicated to awadhi and rajsi preparations.
Ambience: Well-lit, tables are large so you dont need to elbow each other while eating, nor move stuff to keep the dishes(although that advantage was taken away by the sheer clutter of plates, glasses and unnecessary cutlery on the table), overall pleasant. the pianist was REALLY loud, and when I asked the waiter if it could not be turned down/stopped, I was curtly told that the best pianist in India Brian Silas was playing.
Service. Bad. Wonder if that was because King Abdullah was also eating at Dum Pukht on the same day, but bad. Took forever for the food to arrive, and more than once when I was looking around for a waiter, they would look me in the eye and ignore me (I am not that ugly, wasn't dressed in rags, plus we had two brits in the group)! Although once the food arrived, we were served well.
Never again.

Italiano, Gurgaon

4 people, went there on a Sunday evening.
Order: Appetisers: Cream of Chicken Soup, Tomato Brouchette (Day's special, Bread with some tomato topping); Drinks: Sula White Wine, Two mocktails - One Ginger based and something called Seventh Heaven(latter not good); Main Course: Biancaneve Pizza (Potatoes, Spinach), Ravioli in tomato sauce, Chicken breast with cheese and asparagus(Day's special), Fusilli with mushrooms and bacon. Bill Rs.1766.Value for money: Definitely

Finally, I get to review one of the better italian restaurants in Gurgaon.Been there before, but not since starting this blog, until today.
The food, as a rule, is good and very reasonably priced for an Italian restaurant. The chicken breast was really awesome, pizza and ravioli - pretty good. The only dampener was the fusilli - I think it was the cheese (gorgonzola), it had a slightly pungent taste which did it. Also, the person having it has a rather butter chicken friendly palate, so perhaps it was a bit bland as well.
One might consider trying the Indian wine Sula - Rs 225 for a glass.

Service: The service is fine, the waiters seem informed about the dishes, but can't communicate well.
Menu: Drinks - Standard selection of Whiskey, Rum, Vodka. A few common cocktails, mocktails and Sula wine. Food - (the right sized menu in my opinion - runs into four pages) - Appetisers, soups, pastas, piatta forti (?),pizzas, desserts.
Ambience: Don't let the exteriors and the painted restaurant name outside put you off, its nice atmosphere inside, Candle-lit tables. This one is not bad even in the afternoon. A petite bar rounds up the place well.
How to get there: The full address is Italiano, Crossroad Complex, Nathupur, DLF Ph-III. When coming from Delhi, take a right from the first red light after crossing the Delhi-Gurgaon border on MG Road. Drive down to find the Crossroad supermarket on your left and Italiano is on the first floor.

Donut Factory, Metropolitan Mall, Gurgaon

Pack of 10 donuts - 70-80 bucks (depending on which flavor you order).
Unlike any donuts you have usually eaten. Warm, cripsy bite sized donuts prepared on an assembly line in front of you topped up with a variety of flavors - cinnamon sugar and dark chocolate are particularly awesome. (Vanilla is passe. Butterscotch doesnt taste like butterscotch). Wish it was more accessible and you wouldn't have to contend with the parking hassles at Metropolitan everytime you wanted a bite o' donuts. Dessert: 2 Chocolate Malted Turtles. Bill: Rs 5,100. Value for Money: This time, yes,(see below to learn why). Food (main course dishes) is otherwise definitely overpriced. Appetisers are usually VFM.Drinks VFM in HH's.

First the important stuff: Late night happy hours from 10:30 onwards and you can order till about 12 (Sunday to Thursday). Usual happy hours till 8:30 (dunno when they start), 50% off on desserts (late night) - wonder how long that lasts.(Some special offer on the southwest menu was going on, not any more however, where you could pick anything else from the menu upon ordering a southwest dish for the same price or less)

In my opinion TGIF is one of the best places to go for a drink (esp the LIT - my acid test for any restaurant). The music is usually good (not this time however), the drinks are well made, and as long as you are going there in happy hours, you dont feel looted (okay a little).(The wine was not appreciated however). The appetisers are pretty good as a rule esp. the Friday's Nachos (As an aside, they are better than the ones I had at the Hard Rock Cafe in Berlin which were too salty) , mozzarella sticks, onion rings, chicken fingers (all actually)

Food is overall average, I mean there is nothing that would make you specially wanna come back to TGIF. Desserts are another story - The Chocolate Malted Turtle is the best dessert in Delhi.(Therein lies a poll - which is the best dessert in Delhi (Non Indian)?)

Ambience: TG-iffy = Good
How to get there: Next to MGF Metropolitan Mall

Earth - Italian Lounge Bar, Gurgaon

2 people, Rice with Asparagus and Mushroom, Chicken Steak, Some Soup; Bill Rs. 796.(Other: Alcohol served, open till 12pm, Part of Moet's in Sec.15).
The food was average, the chicken could have been more tender, and the rice could have had a little less salt, plus strangely they serve bread with mint sauce. The good thing is, with the Metro its easy to get to, just take the Metro from Rajiv Chowk in CP to Delhi Main on the Vishwavidyalaya route, its within walking distance. Paranthawalli Gali appears to have two main parantha shops, we went to the one on the right of the shop which says 'The power of paranthas' (this parantha power shop is also the onewhere Indira Gandhi ate once, they have framed photos as proof), am wondering why I didnt go the one whose name I remember. Anyway, nice parantha menu and really good food. Although the parantha are very different from the traditional Punjabi paranthas, more like stuffed-khasta-poori.
